Ruben Selles praises Hull City stars after 'perfect game' against Leeds United - Leeds Live

Hull City manager Ruben Selles left blown away by something one Leeds United player did on Saturday

Leeds United’s lead at the top of the Championship table has been reduced to just a solitary point after The Whites blew away a two-goal lead against Hull City, to draw 3-3.

Illan Meslier has been criticised for much of the season, especially after his howler against Sunderland and on Saturday it is fair to say he was at fault for all three of Hull’s goals as Leeds went 3-1 up, to drawing.

Leeds initially went into the half-time break losing 1-0, after Abu Kamara lobbed Meslier early on with the Frenchman outside of his penalty area. Tony Dorigo blamed Max Wober for being way out of positioning.

The second was the worst, dropping a ball at Joao Pedro’s feet before Kamara scored late on in largely the centre of Meslier’s goal. But there were positives too, and one of those as fan favourite Ao Tanaka.

Tanaka enjoyed another excellent performance in the middle of the park, even if Leeds lost the bite that they have had away from home in previous games when Ethan Ampadu has been playing in midfield.

But Tanaka did something he had not done before in a Leeds shirt, curling home a gorgeous goal from the edge of the area. Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside, Hull manager Ruben Selles praised Tanaka.

“It was so quick. It was an excellent action from Tanaka, straight into the top corner. It’s always difficult, because there are things you can do better but we are talking about the best players in the league.”

Leeds fans may be desperately unhappy with Meslier but the draw does see The Whites remain at the top of the League, even if Sheffield United and Burnley picked up wins against Watford and Blackburn.

Tanaka will have been worried about Ampadu’s return in regards to his starting spot in the side but his form surely makes him the best candidate to go alongside Ampadu, over Joe Rothwell and Ilia Gruev.

He proved as much once more on Saturday not only with his goal but his all-round general performance. All action, involved in duels, but excellent with the ball and a reminder he is capable of scoring goals.
