Phil Parkinson Analysis: What Sunderland fans expect from the new boss – SportsByte

Hull City talent has already earned ‘terrific’ Phil Parkinson praise as Wrexham consider January deal

The January transfer window is here and Wrexham will be looking to make sone key additions to bolster Phil Parkinson’s squad.

Wrexham ended 2024 in style, securing a pair of late home wins against Blackpool and Wigan Athletic.

2025 hasn’t been started well though as Wrexham fell to a 2-1 defeat at Barnsley on New Year’s Day.

Wrexham were arguably the better side for large spells but it just wasn’t to be as Phil Parkinson suffered another away defeat.

Starting the year with a defeat isn’t ideal but the January transfer window is open and Wrexham can strike some crucial business.

Wrexham target has already dazzled in front of Phil Parkinson

Wrexham want another striker in January with more firepower eyed up for the second half of the season and beyond.

Plymouth Argyle’s Ryan Hardie has been linked with Wrexham this week but an addition at the back may also be in mind.

We can’t rule out a centre back addition, especially if Will Boyle moves on, but another goalkeeper could be eyed.

The Athletic note that Wrexham recently held an interest in Hull City stopper Thimothee Lo-Tutala.

Lo-Tutala attended Wrexham’s EFL Trophy win over Crewe Alexandra in December as he hoped to join on an emergency loan deal.

The EFL refused to allow Wrexham to make that signing though, ruling that Parkinson had to make do with Mark Howard.

We suggested a move for Lo-Tutala and as the former Tottenham Hotspur talent may still be a January target, he has certainly produced one moment to stick in Parkinson’s mind

Back in April, Lo-Tutala started for Doncaster Rovers as they beat Wrexham 1-0.

Lo-Tutala produced a stunning save late in the day, clawing Steven Fletcher’s header away from goal with just moments to play.

This was one of the saves of the season in League Two and Parkinson even praised Lo-Tutala’s save as ‘terrific’ when speaking to Wrexham’s official YouTube channel.

That save may well have stuck in Parkinson’s mind and may be part of the inspiration for targeting the Frenchman.

Wrexham must look at goalkeeper signing

Wrexham wanted Lo-Tutala with Arthur Okonkwo injured and Callum Burton potentially out for the rest of the season.

Okonkwo has been back on the bench in the last two games and will surely return to the starting XI soon enough.

However, Wrexham’s plan for the season was to have Okonkwo as first-choice with Mark Howard sitting third in the pecking order.

Burton was then in between the pair and his injury means that Wrexham should still look into adding another goalkeeper.

Lo-Tutala fits the bill having already been out on loan in League Two and if Hull City are willing to let him go – which they surely will, given his lack of playing time this season – then Wrexham should remain keen.
