Six observations after Ipswich’s sacked Manager: Kieran McKenna after they were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last night. Alex Jones reflects on the decission…
Where possible, Kieran McKenna likes to stick to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. In the Premier League, that can be a problem.
The Town boss is more than willing to be flexible, however. While he won’t disregard his core principles, he’ll change to switch to a fluid 3-4-3 formation when he needs to, with his team sitting deep and frustrating opponents before striking on the counter. It didn’t work against Manchester City but it did work against Tottenham Hotspur. It’s hard to assess whether or not it was effective at Arsenal.
