Skellefteå AIK’s women’s ice hockey team is penalized with a ten-point deduction. The club has used too few homegrown players on repeated occasions.
– We will appeal, says club director Daniel Fåhraeus in a statement .
Ice hockey club Skellefteå AIK’s women’s team has used too few homegrown players on four occasions during the SDHL season. For that, you are punished with a deduction of ten points.
– The decision is not at all proportionate to the error committed and we will appeal. There was no intent or possibility of sporting advantage because of this. We believe that it is extremely hard to take ten recorded points away from us, says club director Daniel Fåhraeus.
SDHL’s competition regulations require that at least ten players in a match squad are home-bred. Which means that the player must have been a registered player in Sweden for at least three years during his junior years.
– We have made a mistake and had accepted a fine, says Ulrika Dahlgren, General Manager Dam in Skellefteå AIK Hockey.
The players stand behind the appeal
Dahlgren’s explanation is that these players were used in the cooperation association Clemensnäs to be able to give them playing time instead of sitting on the bench in SDHL.
– We stand behind the association’s decision to appeal, but we will not let this affect us on the ice, says team captain Malou Berggren.
The points deduction causes Skellefteå to slip from fourth to eighth place in the table.
